Lime mixed into the ground causes short and long term reactions which, depending on the allotment of water in the ground, can be determined by selecting the appropriate kind and amount of lime.

It should be kept in mind that ground, when stabilized with lime or lime hydrate, becomes frost proof only after a long term reaction.
